Osteria

This is a deep, almost entirely Italian list of 417 bottles built around the red regions of the peninsula, with Tuscany and Piedmont doing the heavy lifting. Reds dominate at 252 selections, with real depth in Brunello di Montalcino, Super Tuscan blends, Nebbiolo and Barbera from Piemonte, and a strong Sicilian showing from the likes of Occhipinti and Gorghi Tondi. Producer commitment runs deep, so expect verticals and multiple cuvees from Foradori, La Stoppa, La Spinetta, Pio Cesare, and Emidio Pepe. Prices open around $12 and climb to $1,250 for the Scarpa Tettineive Barbaresco, with a median near $119, so there is room to drink well without going deep, though the by the glass program is thin at only six pours. This list rewards the guest who wants to explore native Italian grapes and serious aged reds, less so anyone after wide variety by the glass or wines from outside Italy.
