Situada al este de los Viñedos del Oja-Tirón, con Haro como punto de referencia, la Sonsierra Occidental se extiende a ambos márgenes del Ebro, entre los Montes Obarenes y la Sierra de Cantabria, que la protege de la influencia atlántica. Es una subzona mágica, la favorita de vignerons y grandes bodegas, y especial también por sus suelos arcillo-calcáreos, muy ricos en carbonato cálcico, con limo, arenisca y otros componentes rocosos.
